How to spend Saturday

Cruella De Vil

"Darling, red isn't your color... Give me the hat...
Give me the hat, or you will become a hat!"

Jeeves

'Pardon me sir, but are you proposing to enter the Ritz Hotel in that hat?' I knew that the time had come when Bertram must show that iron resolution of his which has been so widely publicized.

In the matter of head-joy Jeeves is not in tune with modern progressive thought, his attitude being best described, perhaps, as hidebound, and right from the start I had been asking myself what his reaction would be to the blue Alpine hat with the pink feather in it which i had purchased in his absence. Now I knew. I could se at a glance that he wanted no peice of it.

I, on the other hand, was all for this Alpine lid. I was prepared to concede that it would have been more suitable for rural wear, but against this had to be set the fact that it unquestionably lent a diablerie to my appearence, and mine is an appearance that needs all the diablerie it can get. In my voice, therefore, as I replyed, there was a touch of steel.

‘Yes Jeeves, that, in a nutshell, is what I am proposing to do. Don't you like this hat?‘
‘No, sir.‘
‘Well, I do,‘ I replied rather cleverly, and went out with it tilted just that merest shade over the left eye which makes all the difference.

Boys, Boys, Boys

Translation:

I thought I would continue the theme from yesterday with a scene from “Brideshead Revisited” that always warms my heart! I will top that with some hat etiquette from the website www.modist.se

“Decent manners is that a man lifts his hat or cap when he greets a woman, or an elderly man. A man wears hats outdoors, but not indoors. Polite men take of their hat in elevators as soon as there are women present. Otherwise are elevators considered as outdoors, as well as buses, malls, museums, and such. With a woman as company, a well behaved man carries his hat in the hand in museums exhibitions.

A traditional formality is that men lift their hats for the Swedish flag, i.e. when it passes spectators in a parade, or is hoisted or hauled. An old custom is that men take of their hats when a funeral passes, even if one does not know the deceased. This is done as a respect for a national symbol as well as for the one that is carried to their final rest.

Even the modern cap is to be taken of indoors, no matter how the trend-conscious boy/man may think it is a part of his personality. And it doesn’t matter if the cap is turned backwards, it is still wrong to keep it on past the front door.

If a man wears a hat indoors because of a disease, he has no reason to excuse himself.”

Cigarettmunstycke

Today's inspiration is from Breakfast at Tiffany's, this is how a party should be! And if I would ever start smoking, it would be so that I could use a cigarette holder - that's the only reason.

A hat is...

"A hat is a flag, a shield, a bit of armor, and the badge of femininity. A hat is the difference between wearing clothes and wearing a costume; it's the difference between being dressed and being dressed up; it's the difference between looking adequate and looking your best. A hat is to be stylish in, to glow under, to flirt beneath, to make all others seem jealous over, and to make all men feel masculine about.

A piece of magic is a hat."
